The Best Free Blogging Platforms for Writers (From My Experience)

If you're a writer looking for a free, easy-to-use blogging platform, I’ve been there—testing different sites to find the best fit. After trying nearly all of them, here are my top 3 market picks based on real use:

1. Medium – Best for Building an Audience

I started on Medium, and it’s perfect if you don’t want to deal with tech stuff and just want to write. The built-in audience means people actually find and read your work (unlike starting a blog from scratch).

What I like:

- Super simple—just write and hit publish.
- You can earn money through the Partner Program.

❌ Downsides:
- You don’t own your audience (Medium controls distribution).
- The free URL looks like medium.com/yourname  (not professional).

My take: If you want quick exposure and don’t care about owning your site, Medium is great.

2. WordPress.com (Free Plan) – Best for Long-Term Growth

When I wanted more control, I switched to WordPress. The free plan is solid, and you can upgrade later if you get serious.

What I like:
- Tons of design options (looks more professional than Medium).
- You can move to a custom domain later.
- More features than Blogger (better for scaling up).

Downsides:
- Free plan has ads and a WordPress-branded URL.
- Some learning curve if you’re new to blogging platforms.

My take: If you might turn blogging into something bigger, start here.

3. Blogger – Best for Absolute Beginners

Blogger is my first blogging source. My first blog website is trexera.blogspot.com.  It’s simple, reliable, and run by Google, so it won’t disappear overnight.

✅ What I like:
- No setup stress—just log in and write.
- Free and integrates with Google tools (like AdSense).
- Able to use  a custom domain.

❌ Downsides:
- Limited features (not great for building a brand).

My take: If you want a no-fuss, old-school blog, Blogger is the way to go. But if you’re serious about growing, WordPress is better.

Final Thoughts
- For quick readers & monetization → Medium
- For long-term blogging → WordPress.com
- For the simplest option → Blogger

I’ve used all three, and each has its strengths. If you’re just starting, Medium or WordPress.com are the best bets.

Question for you: Are you blogging for fun, building a brand, or trying to make money? That’ll help pick the right one!
Thats it for this blog I'll see you in another one.
